Brno is one of the largest exhibition cities in Central Europe. The history of its modern international trade fair grounds dates back to 1928. As the second largest city in the Czech Republic, Brno is the centre of the whole South Moravian Region. Thanks to its rich history, it offers many unique monuments and other cultural activities. Brno is famous for its exceptional architecture of functionalism dating in 20s and 30s of 20th century. However, it also enjoys a world recognition in science and innovation (eg. the CEITEC research centre).

The city lies between the River Svratka and the River Svitava, and two castles, the Špilberk Castle in the city centre, formerly a military fortress, and the Veveří Castle near the Brno Dam. The young spirit in the city is supported by the fact that there are four universities.

Brno has built a reputation as a gastronomic paradise. The concentration of renown places to eat and drink, especially in the centre, is unprecedented. In 2016, the New York Times  included Brno in an exclusive selection of 52 places to go.
