FORUM OPTONICS 2018 will welcome professionals from leading Czechoslovak institutions. Lecturers will present topics focused on optical and photonic phenomenon, optical and laser systems, and opto-mechanical devices. FORUM OPTONICS offers to the professionals, businessmen and to the public, everything related to the fields of optics and photonics at one place.

Forum is organized by Terinvest in cooperation with ČSSF (Czech and Slovak society for photonics) the main guarantor is RNDr. Dagmar Senderáková, CSc. The lectures will be held in Czech and Slovak language.

Polarization, absorption and emission of light are related to electron spin. The lecture is dedicated to the use of electron spin that is the key to solve many problems of photonics and optoelectronics, such as quantum communication systems, transmission and protection of information, optical manipulation of small particles, etc.

Magneto-Optical Kerr Microscopy

The lecture will be devoted to the magneto-optical Kerr microscopy, experimental technique, which is often used for observation of magnetic domains on surfaces of magnetic materials. In the presentation, the basic principle of the method will be discussed together with its main advantages and disadvantages. Examples of magnetic domains at materials having different magnetic anisotropy will be presented as well.

Secrets of the universe are nowaday revealed with the significant help of Czech scientists, who contribute not only trough basic research, but also to the construction of telescopes on the opposite side of the planet. Ultra-high energetic cosmic rays (UHECR) are the most prominent carriers of deep space information. Detectors and telescopes from Prague and Olomouc are designed to their capture and analysis. This lecture will help you understand the role of Czech scientists and engineers in all of that.

Optical Micromanipulation Techniques

Laser beam transformed with optical elements can be used to affect small particles with sizes from tens of nanometers to tens of micrometers mechanically. In the talk, optical tweezers, optical vortices and other techniques useful for transport, rotation and sorting of both living and non-living objects without mechanical contact will be introduced in popular form.

Multi-Camera Surface Sensing Options for BTF Measurement

The appearance of surfaces depends on the type and direction of illumination and the direction of observation, and therefore the actual surface perception depends on the conditions of its observation. This is a real-area virtualisation problem for Industry 4.0, where a faithful representation of the surface must be represented by a group of thousands of images taken with a combination of different lighting and observation directions. The lecture deals with the design and use of a device that can capture the set of thousands of images in minutes and the possibilities of using the BTF data.

Fiber Lasers – Basic Principles and Applications

Fiber lasers are among the most impressive photonics achievements of the past years. They provide enough power for material cutting and welding but we can find lasers also in delicate devices being developed for the most precise measuring of time and frequency. It was the erbium doped fiber amplifier at the beginning of the laser technology boom - one of the key components needed for the fast internet expansion. The presentation will introduce the basic principles of fiber lasers some of their applications as well as some of the research results achieved at the Institute of Photonics and Electronics, Czech Academy of Sciences.

Imaging by Optical Fibers

Optical fiber bundles have been employed for transfering images in endoscopy for many years. However, in the recent years it has turned out that an image can be transferred even by a single fiber, which allows to observe e.g. neurons in the brain with a negligible damage to the tissue. In the talk, the basic principles of a single-fibre endoscope will be explained and demonstrated on simple experiments.

Nanostructures and Their Exploitation in LED and laser diodes

Reduction of structure dimensions introduced besides increase of elements density in integrated circuits also additional benefit in possibility of structure fabrication in a size of ones to tens of nanometers., which are able to significantly influence properties of optoelectronic devices such as LED or laser diodes. By implementation of structures such as nanodots, nanowires, nano pillars, quantum dots or photonic structures it is possible to enhance their properties and in the same time evade usual problems with lattice mismatch and stress in structure which cause mainly defects in semiconductors.

To become invisible was a domain of phantasy for many centuries. However, thanks to the modern methods and materials in optics the invisible cloaking has become more realistic in the last ten years. Comparison of Stability of Optical Frequency Standards Over Photonic Networks

Optical fibers allow transfer of super stable wavelengths from optical atomic clocks over long distances. The Institute of Scientific Instruments CAS and the CESNET provider put into operation a 306 km long fiber link, that currently transfers wavelength from a telecommunication optical frequency standard from ISI Brno to the optical frequency standard CESNET Prague and thus allows to compare their mutual frequency stability in real time.

Modern Types of Power Lasers in Industry and Related Technologies

Currently, there is a great evolution of laser technology in industrial practice. It results in new types of solid-state lasers (fiber, disc and semiconductor ones), which "matured" and are capable of deployment in production 24/7. Comparing to existing CO2 gas lasers, their efficiency exceeds 50%, shorter wavelength allows transmission by used optical fibers and other positive features can be found, else. They enable  the development of basic technologies such as laser cutting and laser welding, contribute to metallic 3D printing and other progressive technologies, too.
